Wine Industry
Economic Reports

Wine sales whether in bulk contracts, wholesale or retail, and its success depends on various economic influences such as weather, natural disasters and the worldwide economy.  Take anyone of these major indices and throw bad times into it, and sales of wine can slump for years to come.  Without sounding the gloom and doom horn, we will present various reports from authoratative sources available on the Internet that are impacting wineries, vineyards and wine sales worldwide.

Weather:  Take a drought in Australia or Italy, and continually heavy rains for long periods of time in California and it could spell disaster for wines in those regions.

Disasters:  We've all seen how a late unexpected Spring frost can harm tender buds, Earth quakes in Chile and massive fires in California can affect the vines and inventory from these regions.

Economy:  Since the summer of 2008, the world economy has left millions jobless, homeless and many millions more struggling to make ends meet resulting in retail prices for high end wines to drop by over 30%. How will all this affect your sales in the years to come.

We will provide you the titles to all reports, the authors and links so that you can read for yourselves how the wine industry is shaping up throughout the world.  If you come across a report wine enthusiasts would enjoy reading, please feel free to e-mail us the link at winepromotions @aol.com. Click Here to read more.

Is there anything such as food and wine pairing or is it just snobbery?

According to Laura Ortiz, "food and wine pairing does exist, and it is not new. It is a practice that has existed ever since food ceased to serve a merely nutritional purpose and began to be considered a pleasure." Ortiz points out different pairing techniques: assessment, occasion, season and, the favorite one, “regional pairing.”

Regional pairing consists in combining food and beverages from the same geographic region, and it is ideal because it is created by and for people with a homogeneous taste. Each regional cuisine has given birth to a particular marriage: “Delicious examples are beluga caviar and vodka, foie gras and Sauternes, bellota ham and manzanilla sherry from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and Argentinian barbecue and Malbec,” highlighted the experienced sommelier, who is also a consultant, a certified specialist in olive oil tasting, and a chef.

Struggling to increase prices in United States

Without dollar devaluation, each winery makes an attempt to improve a declining profitability. Main exporters have reached a tacit consensus on increasing prices for wines over USD $32 per case, with some exceptions. There is not so much unanimity in regard to the segment below USD FOB $26 per case, where competition is fierce.

             Karra Yerta Wines
 Vineyard after the rain

Karra Yerta Wines is a family-owned boutique winery situated high in the beautiful Flaxmans Valley, Barossa Hills area of the Mt Lofty Ranges, South Australia.  The Barossa Hills region, also known as the Barossa Ranges, including Keyneton, Eden Valley, Flaxmans Valley and Springton - is generally classed as land from above 300m to 600m sea level, and is noticeably cooler than the Barossa Valley “floor”, so the grapes take longer to mature here.

Therefore, vintage is about a month later than on the valley floor and due to this, some believe that the hills grapes have more body and flavour than grapes harvested from the lower grounds.  The Eden Valley area is famous for its dry rieslings and many wines produced from the region have won world-wide acclaim.  The name “Karra Yerta”, is derived from the local Aboriginal Kaurna, pronounced “garna”, language.  Karra refers to the majestic Redgum trees of the area and Yerta, means country, or ground.
